Chick lit on TV

Chick lit and films have a long history and, for the most part, a happy one: The Devil Wears Prada was hugely successful (not to mention Oscar-nominated) and at TV Scoop’s sister site Trashionista, we even devote a weekly feature to our favourite books-turned-films.

But books turned TV series have a less happy history. For every Sex and the City, there’s a Good in Bed (will HBO ever make the promised mini-series? It seems highly doubtful). Meanwhile Risa Green’s Notes From The Underbelly has made it to the small screen – but looks terrible.

The latest news is that a miniseries of The Starter Wife, taken from Gigi Levangie’s bestselling novel and starring Debra Messing, will air in the US on May 31. (And hopefully at some point over here, as I love a good riches-to-rags story).

But we won’t get our hopes up about the upcoming (alleged) adaptations of Bergdorf Blondes, Gentlemen and Players and Literary Superstar.

We will keep writing about them, though…
