TV Scoop celebrates Simpsons 20th birthday

By Paul Hirons on April 23rd, 2007 1 comment

It’s an incredible statistic, but The Simpsons was 20 years old last week. From humble beginnings on The Tracey Ullman Show, it’s now everyone’s favourite comedy show. From initial misunderstanding – the establishment thought that it was a bad influence on families all over the world – it’s now rightly credited as the sharpest satire on modern family life ever.

It also spawned TV’s best-ever character – lovable oaf Homer Simpson. To pay homage to the show, and the man, here’s a clip of best-ever Homer moments. The 10-minute clip has some of my favourite Homer moments in it too – from the skiing clip where he accidentally imagines Flanders in skinny-fit ski wear, the The X Files clip and the terrific Raiders of the Lost Ark parody. Enjoy (there will be another comp clip along soon)!

All hail this superior show. Perhaps UK terrestrial TV could celebrate this brilliant achievement by showing some episodes from the last ten years…?
