If anyone watched the last concentrated, mainline hit of reality wince-o-rama (or Celebrity Wife Swap as we also call it), you’ll know that this is car crash TV at its best/worse. I was angry with the last one – it made me ill just seeing the digusting, misogynist pig that was John McCrirrick propped up, half naked in bed with his excellent specimens of Manos Boobos flapping down across his chest like two fat puppies. What flora and fungi grows between the body folds of this loathesome man, he only knows. It also made me angry because I found myself liking Edwina Currie a little bit. Nothing has ever done that before.
And now there’s another one-off special to trumpet the new series of the show, starring two more odd couples – Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee and Vanessa Feltz and her fiancé Ben Offoedu.
The shows kicks off with Debbie travelling to London, to expereince Vanessa’s crazy urban lifestyle. She hosts a radio show six morning a week and hits the town most nights with Ben. Debbie on the other hand, lives in Reading and has retreated from the city life, cooks, cleans and looks after her man.
Vanessa, meanwhile, travels gingerly westwards and has to put up with the country life and Paul’s idea of entertainment – magic trick after magic trick after magic trick.
There’s obviously plenty of scope here for lots of shouting and general spousal mayhem, and I’m rather hoping that Paul enjoys his experience, but not a lot.
