Set The Video - Castaway, BBC1, Friday, 9pm

The_castawaysWhen you think of a reality TV show, you think of people preening in front of the cameras, with loud mouthed clap traps in bikinis mouthing off at all and sundry... oh, and if it's on ITV, chances are they'll be eating worms or something. Well, reality TV is back in a more gentle form with Castaway (BBC1, Friday, 9pm)

Of course, Castaway was the first sighting middle England got of Ben Fogle and his crumpety English accent when the BBC plonked his plumby arse and pals on the island of Taransay in the Hebrides. What followed didn't resemble some awful Lord of the Flies massacre (like we've come to expect from our reality TV hopefuls), but rather a placid and, dare I say it, sometimes philosophical time stranded away from the mainland hubbub.

If you're tuning in, don't expect Jade Goody types. Instead, look for people sat atop partly built roofs musing about livestock and more sensible jumpers than a Saga package holiday in the Alps. This years is set to be a bit different. This series will be presented by writer, comedian and general affable chap, Danny Wallace and is located in the kinder climate of an island near New Zealand. Should be intriguing. [Mof Gimmers]
