The tail end of this story in today’s Mirror reveals that Billy and Honey Mitchell are to have another baby. Is that safe? I mean, this couple are already using their brain cell in shifts. What are they going to do when each of them has to look after one baby?
Regular viewers will remember that it wasn’t more than a couple of months ago that they "finally accepted their Down’s Syndrome child was their own." See what I mean? Billy was present at the birth (OK, he was stuck on the Tube, so he was a bit late) and so, not surprisingly, was Honey, so who else’s could the poor kid have been?
Naturally the scriptwriters will go to town with worries that the new baby will also be Down’s. There’ll be the usual agonising over whether to have amniocentesis, or a termination. There’ll be some grappling with statistics. And there’ll be a smattering of malapropisms from the verbally challenged Honey. Ah, so maybe I should have said there’ll be some agonising about whether to have an abomination and some grappling with ballistics.
Yes, that works. In fact I think the whole storyline will be a heap of ballistics. But in the end they "bravely" go ahead with the pregnancy, and Honey will give birth at the end of the year. A Christmas baby in a soap? Surely not.
