We all know that when you want a beautiful, well-written period drama, you go to Auntie Beeb and she'll give you Bleak House, or The Ruby In The Smoke, or something equally brilliant. But this Spring, ITV are fighting back in quite a major way, with a Jane Austen season.
Over on the Guardian's TV blog Organ Grinder, Tara Conlan is getting all hot and bothered about Penry-Jones's performance and sparks off the 'Rupert vs. Colin' debate, because of course all Austen productions now have a rather large, lake-shaped shadow looming over them, if that's at all possible. Thankfully, ITV have realised that after the BBC's version, and the recent film, doing Pride and Prejudice probably wasn't the best idea, but there'll undoubtedly be comparisons.
Conlan's post also has a link to the very glossy, very impressive looking advert which will first air this Sunday, and I've got to say it's worked on me, because I'm pretty excited already. About something on ITV! Wonders never cease. [annawaits]
