In 2004, BBC Three showed a fabulously funny, and quite affectionate parody of Jesus Christ Superstar, and I was hoping it might be repeated this Christmas, but alas that has turned out not to be the case.
AD/BC – A Rock Opera is a re-telling of the Nativity story, and was written by, and starred Matt Berry (Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace). It also features the Mighty Boosh’s musical maestro Julian Barratt, Richard Ayoade (he was in The IT Crowd, but don’t hold that against him), the fabulous Julia Davies (recently seen in Fear of Fanny) and a cameo by Matt Lucas as God. You just know it’s gotta be good.
So, if you want to see some bona fide comedy heroes singing in a funky, 60s Andrew Lloyd Webber-type way – and let’s face it, who wouldn’t – pop over the cut for a YouTube taster…
