The excitement mounts as we enter the Top Ten of our Best TV Moments of 2006 series and at Number 10 we find ourselves, not on Downing Street but on a completely different street: The Street.
This short run set the bar for serial dramas set in one location but where each episode concentrates on a single character. This is a formula that has worked elsewhere (Sorted, to name but one) but never better than with Jimmy McGovern’s excellent concept and unparalleled writing.
News that a second series of The Street had been commissioned was greeted with whoops of delight in this house – several doors along the street remain unopened and even behind those we have visited there are characters whose stories remain untold, so there are plenty of depths left to plumb in this drama-filled urban microcosm.
