The BBC today published details of the forthcoming schedule for BBC One during the Winter/Spring season and it looks like there’s something in it for everyone. Rather disturbing though is Auntie’s continued use of the word "fresh" to describe the season. With the return of old favourites like Doctor Who (admittedly with a new assistant), the Harry Enfield Show, Panorama, Waking The Dead (which will be a lot fresher with Tara Fitzgerald joining the team), The Apprentice (OK it’s moved from BBC Two to One), Hotel Babylon and The Street and some non-favourites like The One Show, fresh isn’t exactly the word I’d use.
That said, there’s a lot to be happy about.
Life On Mars returns, and we’ll finally find out what Sam Tyler is doing in 1973.
James Nesbitt (pictured above) stars in a modern retelling (by Steven Moffat) of the Jekyll & Hyde story wherein he plays both characters, and that’s not the only new drama to come. We can look forward to Five Days – a "multi-stranded" thriller starring Hugh Bonneville, Janet McTeer, David Oyelowo and Edward Woodward, written by Gwyneth Hughes (Cherished) – as well as a new series of one off dramas which mark welcome returns for both Jessie Wallace and Michael Gambon.
So with all that going on, why did they have to recommission The One Show?
