Review: Strictly Confidential

Strictly_confidential_1Last Thursday’s kick off episode to Kay Mellor’s new "adult" drama Strictly Confidential had every one of her hallmarks stamped authoritatively all over it.  The complex interweaving plots, the subtexts between each of the main characters, the light humour in the sidelines and the promise of explosive turns to the main stories to come.

Added to that, the start of a murder mystery thread, the titillation of the lead protagonists being sex therapists and the frequent romping all add up to a welcome addition to what was the worst night of the week for telly addicts, at least in our house.

OK with Eva Pope, Suranne Jones, Nikki Sanderson and Tracy Brabin all appearing in one episode it did start to look like a refuge for old Coronation Street actors, but that aside this cracking drama is already streets ahead (sorry!) of Kay Mellor’s slow and tedious tales of life in a country vets practice which appeared on BBC1 earlier this year.
