Top Gear presenter and all-round nice guy Richard Hammond has given his first ever interview since the car crash that almost killed him, five weeks ago. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, of all papers, Hammond talks about finding himself face down in a field, feeling "as mad as a bag of snakes" upon waking up in hospital and realising something was very wrong, and how lego saved his life. No, really.
It’s a very moving account of the crash, and the first few weeks the presenter spent in hospital. He’s now recovering well, and is back at home already – even although doctors had predicted a 15 month hospital stay. "My very last thought was ‘Oh bugger, that’s gone wrong," Hammond says of the moments after the crash. "Well, we’re checking out now. You’ve had it’.
