For reasons only known to the people who enjoy the terrible Vicar of Dibley, the show keeps on going from strength to strength. It has awards, the plaudits, the fans… and now, the Americans want it Office style. The Murdoch owned Fox network, home to The Simpsons, has announced plans to shoot a pilot, renamed The Minister of Divine, based on the Richard Curtis-Dawn French collaboration.
There’s be no word on casting as yet, but Empire have reported that Richard Curtis will be involved in some capacity. A few years back, the rumour mill went into overdrive with news that Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin (of Frasier fame) had purchased the US remake rights with a joint deal with production company
Bristol Cities.
DS report that the sitcom’s UK producers Tiger Aspect told BBC News
in September 2000 that Curtis was "delighted" and "and keen to see who
will be cast in the lead role so brilliantly played for the UK by Dawn
French". The show failed to enter production…
Maybe it’s me, but I cannot begin to understand the show’s appeal, as the gags are so safe it makes me wretch. In saying that, I don’t account for every persons taste (pity) and it’ll probably be a smash over the pond. Won’t stop me being puzzled though…[Mof Gimmers]
