Ofcom, TV’s babysitter, have flatly refused ITV’s suggestion to cut down on their output of children’s TV.
It had been reported that ITV had been looking towards a move which would cut back its hours of kids
shows from eight hours a week to a mere two. ITV were motioning toward this in order to free the schedule up
for shows that would bring in higher ratings, and susbequently, bring in higher revenue from adverts. Swines.
An Ofcom statement said "The [Ofcom] Board declined a
proposal from ITV plc for a significant change in the volume of
children’s programmes on ITV1."
ITV submitted an official request to Ofcom in August requesting its commitment to children’s programming on ITV1 be reduced. This would have cost the Children’s sector a whopping £25million per year. It is obvious that ITV is failing in creating a big enough revenue, and is desperately seeking ways to make more cash. It’s easy.
