Ricky Gervais to Quit Comedy?

By ShinyMedia on July 26th, 2006 3 comments

Ricky_gervais_4 Oh no, say it ain’t so! Could it be that the man who brought us The Office and Extras is to leave his comedy roots behind?

Apparently so. For Ricky Gervais has said that the next series of Extras, due to start in September, won’t just be the last of the show, but the last ever sitcom he’ll produce.

Ricky will, however, continue to work with writing partner Stephen Merchant – but it’ll be all serious. "We’d like to do drama,” he told the Sun. “We’d like to do something with more weight, like The Sopranos – not necessarily crime, but something meaty. Revenge is the best theme." Sad news indeed for British TV. [Amber McNaught]

ricky gervais is the most overratted man in the history of anything. yes the office was funny at the time but it doesnt stand up to endless rewatches like alan partridge, blackadder, fawlty towers, etc.

extras was boring, and the less said about his dire dire DIRE episode of the simpsons the better.

why does everyone kiss his arse so hard? ok, so he can be funny sometimes, but funniest man in the world? yeah whatever.

as for his podcast, all that consists of is karl pilkington being funny really quietly, and ricky gervais shreiking with laughter every 2 minutes nearly blowing the speakers on my hifi. needless to say i didnt continue listening when they wanted to charge for it.

    and flanimals? pathetic.
