Football is about to feature more heavily over the coming weeks. That’s because the Fifa World Cup in upon us.

For all you footy widows, I apologise. You’ll probably have to sit through a fair amount of teasers until the big event in Germany. Rest easy though as there is a programme of genuine interest and mass appeal tonight!

That’s right, tonight finally sees something that the Beeb have been
dangling in front of us for weeks and weeks! Tonight sees ‘When Lineker met
Maradona
‘.

Lineker, now anchorman of the BBC’s Match of the Day, hasn’t seen Diego (the
greatest footballer of all time say some) since he single handily knocked
England out of the 1986 World Cup.

Diego’s first goal was the infamous ‘hand of God’
incident
, of which Lineker pulls no punches when asking about it. The second
goal was a breath taking display of virtuoso skill
. Maradona pretty much
took on the whole of the England team, shimmied past the entire populace of
Greater London, nutmegged the Pennines and slotted the ball past Peter Shilton.

There is more to Diego’s history than footballing brilliance. His involvement
with Castro, drug abuse, his ballooning in weight, his resurgence in the form
of his Argentinian chat show, mafia involvement… he really does make
compulsive viewing.

Lineker is a superb interviewer asking all the right questions and getting good
soundbites. The show climaxes with the pair of number ten’s attending a match
at Maradona’s beloved Boca Juniors.

A must see.

Hi, could anyone tell me the orchestral piece used in the interview? It was used when showing clips of the 1986 World Cup game between Argentina and England, particularly the behaviour of the fans in light of the Falkland War. I would really appreciate any help. Sounds like it could be from a film soundtrack or something. Thanks.
